Every year, Sew Smart Alterations serves thousands of customers across our stores. As part of our everyday clothing alteration services, we generate fabric offcuts — pieces of material that would otherwise be discarded.
We wanted to find a better way to use these materials. What if we could turn something destined for the bin into something creative, useful and meaningful?
This simple idea inspired our Trash to Treasure initiative. Our directors, Konica and Mina, brought their creativity and enthusiasm to the project, developing workshops that give leftover fabrics a new purpose while encouraging community participation.
The initiative began with Christmas wreath-making workshops and has since expanded to include Easter and Mother's Day activities. Today, Sew Smart brings these creative experiences to multiple shopping centres, welcoming children, adults and families to participate.
What started as a way to repurpose leftover fabrics has become an ongoing celebration of creativity, sustainability and community spirit.
